Evaluation of Educational Development Offices (EDOs) at Schools and Educational Hospitals: An Internal Evaluation

Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to conduct an internal evaluation of EDOs at Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences. The study was carried out in six steps, including the development of an evaluation plan, design of tools, data collection and analysis, reporting and feedback. Twelve EDOs were evaluated in the present study.  Afterward, the results showed that the status of EDOs was classified at medium level (6 EDOs were at second quarter meanwhile the other 6 offices were at third quarter). Moreover, it indicated that the scores of domains of ‘program evaluation’, ‘educational scholarship’ and ‘student participation in developmental activity’ were in the second quarter, and ‘faculty evaluation’, ‘student assessment’, ‘curriculum development’, ‘faculty development’ and ‘management of developmental activities’ were in the third quarter. In conclusion, familiarity of managers with their roles and responsibilities, establishing of infrastructure and a systemic support was considered vital to develop EDOs at the educational system.
