Abstract:

The existence of rich oil and gas reserves, thriving agriculture, vital and strategic crossings has given a special and geopolitical position to the region of east of the Euphrates. The role of this region in connecting Syria to the Iraq and its having borders with Turkey and presence of Kurdish groups so called PKK has made this region scene of rivalries of regional and international powers. In addition, conflicting and heterogeneous interests of the actors involved in this region have made the landscape of this region ambiguous.
This article by the method of descriptive-analytical and by the use of library resources has explained goals and policies of involving countries in this region and studied possible scenarios in this area.
Findings of this paper shows that however Kurdish groups by the help of Americans have made political, military and security structures until now have refused to cooperate with central government. but in the long term because of existence of deep conflicts between Kurdish systems and tribal systems and also disagreement of tribes with Kurds that has led to a local resistance against illegitimate presence of the US has prepared grounds of withdrawing of the US from this region.
