Comparative evaluation on the effect of morphology in energy efficiency through IMM methodology, in Haft Hoz & Chizar neighborhood, Tehran.
In current era, multiplicity of city-forming factors, their complex form and the crisis-making issue of urban energy efficiency had led to emphasis on the importance of applying quantitative morphology in analysis and design of urban textures. In this paper, metropolis has been assumed as a Complex Adaptive System (CAS) and regarding the point that extensive studies have demonstrated the effects of form of the city and the role of physical elements in energy consumption, attempts have been made to measure the energy consumption, based on the morphological characteristics. This research is classified as an applied research and methodologically wise (or in terms of research method), it is evaluation-analytical basis. The aim of this research is to evaluate the energy efficiency of Chizar and Haft-Hoz neighborhoods of Tehran comparatively, considering a comprehensive approach and applying the IMM (Integrated Modification Methodology) methodology. The main question, which resulted to this research, is that which one is more energy efficient, between the professionally designed neighborhood of Haft-Hoz and the organic texture of the Chizar neighborhood. In this article, the CAS approach is at first stated and then the completely new IMM methodology, as the applied model for the article, is introduced. Then, the aforementioned neighborhoods are evaluated comparatively. The results indicate that the Chizar neighborhood is quantitatively in an inappropriate condition, in interface and accessibility criteria, therefore, requires principal modifications. Also, weak indicators are evaluated in proximity and porosity standards. As the result, generally wise the Haft-Hoz neighborhood is more energy efficient.
