Abnormal Audit Fees and Accounting Quality

Abnormally high or law audit fees are typically proxied by the residuals obtained from fee models. It is expected that the auditor’s independence would be questioned because of excessive and out of the norm fees. Abnormal audit fees are also negatively correlated with auditing quality, so the aime of this research is to examine the effect of audit fees on the quality of accounting information. The statistical population of this study, consists of companies accepted on Tehran Stock exchange. Using the systematic removal method, a number of 102 companies was chosen for the sampling and their information over 2011 to 2015, has been investigated. To do this research, multivariate regression method utilising panel data were used. The results show that in a short-term, fee residuals are negatively associated with accounting quality and with an aincrease in abnormal audit fees in the short term, the quality of accounting information are reduced.The results, also suggest that fee residuals are negatively associated with subsequent accounting quality in the long-term and with an increase in abnormal audit fees over a long-term period, the quality of accounting information would reduce.
