Investigating the Relationship between Spirituality and Professional Ethics and Organizational Commitment (Case Study: I. R. I. Police Headquarters)
The main purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between spirituality in the workplace and professional ethics and organizational commitment of the I. R. I. Police Headquarters' personnel.
In terms of its objectives the present study is of an applied research type and in terms of data collection method it is considered as a descriptive-survey and correlational study. The statistical population of this study includes the staff members of the I. R. I. Police headquarters and through Cochran's formula, 257 employees of the police headquarters of the Islamic Republic of Iran were selected by simple random sampling. The research instrument consisted of three questionnaires that were adapted from Gibbons (2002), Allen and Meyer's (1977) Organizational Commitment Questionnaire and Patti's (1990) Work ethic questionnaire to measure spirituality in the workplace of the Islamic Republic of Iran. According to the religious and Islamic culture and organizational culture of I. R. I. Police and also according to the I. R. I. Police Charter of Professional Ethics, the questionnaires have been localized and changes have been applied in them. Their validity was obtained through content validity and their reliability was calculated through Cronbach's alpha as 0.92, 0.82 and 0.83, respectively. Pearson correlation coefficient and multivariate regression analysis were used to test the data. SPSS software was used to analyze the data.
There is a significant and positive relationship between the component of spirituality in the workplace and the professional ethics of I. R. I. Police Headquarters' staff members with respect to the level of significance (sig = 0.000) and the degree of correlation (0.905). There is a significant positive relationship between the component of spirituality in the workplace and the organizational commitment of the I. R. I. Police Headquarters' staff members with respect to the level of significance (sig = 0.019) and the correlation (0.821). There is a significant positive relationship between the component of professional ethics and organizational commitment the of I. R. I. Police Headquarters' staff members with respect to the level of significance (sig = 0.031) and the degree of correlation (0.771).
The results showed that there is a significant relationship between spirituality in the workplace with professional ethics and organizational commitment of I. R. I. Police Headquarters' staff members and the variable of humanistic and healthy relations at work has a greater role in predicting spirituality in the workplace.
