Motivational Interviewing Approach to the Treatment of Alcohol Dependence Syndrome
Alcohol consumption figures have been increasing worldwide in recent years. This increasing has seen as a major problem globally and has raised concerns for policymakers and law enforcers. This is a serious threat to public health. Alcohol consumption has many side effects and consequently various damages. One of the evidence-based therapies is Miller and Ralink's motivational interviewing based on the Prochaska and D'Elmante model of behavior change. In this study, we extracted and reviewed articles related to this topic based on the keywords of motivational interviewing, addiction, alcohol dependence from Iran and International databases. Findings from previous studies all indicated that motivational interviewing was effective in reducing the consequences of alcohol use disorders. The results indicated that motivational interviewing leads to changes in lifestyle, pattern of alcohol consumption and reduction or break the alcohol dependence.
