Webometrics and evaluation of Iranian digital libraries

The main purpose of this study is to determine the visibility status of Iranian digital libraries.

This study was conducted by link analysis and survey statistics of Iranian digital libraries and the research is evaluative. The present article examines the rankings of Yahoo, Google, Alexa, rankings among Iranian sites, and the links received by Iranian digital libraries. Fifty eligible digital libraries with the right software, information resources, and official library setup make up the potential research community. Descriptive statistics indicators in Excel software have been used to analyze the data.

The research findings showed that only 9 libraries were identified by measuring the validity of the Digital Libraries website with the Yahoo PageRank factor. And the digital library of the Faculty of Entrepreneurship of the University of Tehran have obtained the first rank among the sites inside Iran and the global rank among the statistical population of the research. Allameh Tabatabai University's digital library also ranks first among Yahoo.

The present study has determined the position of digital libraries in Iran and the world. Overall, a high percentage of the digital library websites under study did not have a strong international presence, indicating the weaknesses of these websites. Lack of English and young web pages, lack of Iranian digital libraries are the main reasons for the weak presence of Iranian digital libraries on the web. The use of a combination of appropriate promotion and effective human factors can be effective in improving the condition of these libraries.
