Sociological study of cities and villages by analyzing individualistic tendencies (Case study: Citizens of Tehran)

One of the characteristics of urban geography is the creation of modernity and the concept of individualism that arises from this geography. The various aspects of individualism must be taken into account in its analysis and explanation. The next dimension that one pursues for self-interest is called vertical individualism. In this study, the effects of lifestyle factors, life satisfaction, Universalism, and generalized trust on the tendency for vertical individualism are investigated. This paper is applied in terms of purpose and descriptive-survey in terms of type of analysis. From all residents of Tehran who were more than 25 years old, the sample size was 400 using Cochran formula. The method of data collection was multistage cluster sampling using a researcher-made questionnaire. The findings of the study indicate that the relationship between lifestyle variable and tendency to vertical individualism, inverse and correlation value is -0.537, relationship between life satisfaction variable and tendency to vertical individualism, inverse and correlation value is -0.647, and the relationship between variable Universalism and The tendency for vertical individualism, the inverse and the correlation value was -0.608, and the relationship of the generalized trust variable, and the tendency for the vertical individualism, the inverse, and the correlation value was -0.698. Also, the four variables of life style, life satisfaction, Universalism and generalized confidence with tendency to vertical individualism were -0.785 and coefficient of determination equal to 0.616. In other words, lifestyle variables, life satisfaction, Universalism, and generalized confidence, account for 61.6% of the variations in the "vertical orientation tendency".
