Abstract:

The Kurdish regions and surrounding areas from Iran to Asia Minor and Anatolia (the former Ottoman Empire and present-day Turkey) have experienced many historical upheavals and religious upheavals. Although most Kurdish areas have largely contributed to the region's political and historical destiny, But for many centuries they have remained faithful to Shafi'i jurisprudence. The present study seeks to address why most Kurds are Shafi'i. In other words, this study seeks to investigate the reasons for the persistence of Shafi'i religion among the Kurds despite the many threats. In this study, descriptive-analytical method was used. Evidence shows that the core of the Kurdish areas that today, was almost entirely Shafi'I From the beginning the emergence of jurisprudential schools and, gradually, a safe haven for the propagation of the Shafi'i religion. The inability of the Safavid and Ottoman governments to convert to these areas, It goes without saying that Shafi'i jurisprudence did not enter Kurdish areas with political backing at once And their connection with this jurisprudence was deeper than it was destroyed by the rulers and the kings. The impassable geography of the Kurdish regions as well as the fanatical morale of the Kurds also had a profound effect on their adherence to the Shafi'i religion.
