Abstract:

The aim of this study was to predict Internet addiction based on perceived social support and coping styles with students' stress and emotional intelligence. The method of the present study was descriptive-correlational. The statistical population included secondary school students in the second year of Tehran in the academic year of 1397-98 and the statistical sample size included 400 people who were selected by available sampling method. Samples were measured through Yung internet addiction questionnaire (1998), emotional intelligence questionnaire based on Bradbury - Graves (2004), perceived social support developed by Zimet and colleagues (1988), The Lazarus and Folkman’ ways of coping questionnaire (1985). Multiple regression was used to test the hypotheses. The findings showed that social support, emotional intelligence and problem-oriented coping style predict negatively and meaningfully, and emotionally-oriented coping style predicts students' Internet addiction in a positive and meaningful way. Also, among the dimensions of social support, family and important people, and among the dimensions of emotional intelligence, the relationship management dimension predicts students negatively and significantly in Internet addiction.
