Fast Setting and Quick Hardening Cements Types and Applications

Fast setting and quick hardening cements are special cements exhibiting a short setting time between 3 to 60 min and a high early compressive strength up to 20 MPa after 4 hr. These cements are widely used for special applications such as rapid repair of highways, railroads, airports, etc. These cements are divided into three groups based on their setting time, i.e. ultra fast setting, very fast setting and fast setting cements. In this paper different types of fast setting and quick hardening cements with setting time between 8 to 60 min including type III Portland cement, Jet cement, magnesia-phosphate cement, calcium-aluminate cements and geopolymer cements are introduced and their engineering properties along with their chemical and mineralogical compositions and microstructures have been studied.
