Phenomenological Study of Psychological Students' Lived Experience of Stress and Spiritual Health During the Outbreak of COVID-19

The aim of this study was to investigate in depth the stress caused by COVID-19 and the place of spiritual health in stress management caused by this virus.

This naturalistic study examined the stress caused by COVID-19 using a qualitative method. Saturation was obtained by examining semi-structured in-depth interviews of 20 participants electronically.

The findings of this study showed that the main cause of stress is worry about life after death, about those around and worry about the stages of the disease. By strengthening their spiritual and mental health, people try to manage the stress caused by COVID-19, which is in the form of three dimensions: worry for those around them, worry for their fate and worry about getting sick. Spiritual health is associated with abstinence from selfishness, submission, trust, entrustment to God, enduring hardships, liberation from anxiety and depression (mental health).

The results showed that the kind of spiritual health that is associated with increased mental health and adherence to health protocols is important in stress management.
