Comparison of Mental Health and Its Components in Memorizers of the Qur'an and Non-memorizers
The value and importance of preserving the Qurchr('39')an and the supreme position of the memorizers of the Qurchr('39')an are not hidden for any religion. Regardless of the importance and virtue of the Holy Qurchr('39')an, this high supreme position is due to the usefulness of memorization the Holy Qur’an and its internal and external influence on the personality, ethics, and behavior of the individual and society. The present study was conducted with the aim of comparing the mental health and its components in memorizers of the Qurchr('39')an and non-memorizers.
The present causal-comparative research was conducted among all memorizers of the Qurchr('39')an and non-memorizers of Isfahan in 2011. Using available sampling method, 100 Qur’an memorizers and 100 non-memorizers were selected. The Goldberg General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28) was used as a research tool. The data were analyzed by SPSS Software, using independent t-test.
There was a significant difference between the two groups in terms of mental health, and the mental health of memorizers of the Qurchr('39')an was better. There was no significant difference in terms of physical symptoms in two groups. The level of anxiety and depression in memorizers was significantly lower than non-memorizers. The social function of non-memorizers was significantly better than that of the memorizers.
