Explaining of emotional divorce based on communication patterns and conflict resolution among employed women of Tehran city
In recent years, the issue of emotional divorce has been recognized as one of the main problems in marital relations. This study aimed to explaining the emotional divorce based on communication patterns and conflict resolution among employed women of Tehran city.
This study was a correlational – descriptive design. The study population was consisted of all employed women of Tehran city in 2017. 377 employed women were selected by randomly random cluster sampling methods in this research. Instruments for gathering data were the relationship patterns questionnaire (CPQ), Guttman emotional divorce questionnaire (2008) and Rahim's conflict resolution styles (ROCI-II).
The results showed that there is positive and statistically significant relationship between avoidance communication patterns, demand –withdraw communication patterns, dominating conflict resolution style and avoiding conflict resolution style with emotional divorce. But, constructive communication patterns, integrating conflict resolution style, obligating conflict resolution style and compromising conflict resolution style have negative and statistically significant relationship with emotional divorce. Also, the results of stepwise regression analysis indicated that demand –withdraw communication patterns, avoidance communication patterns, compromising conflict resolution style and dominating conflict resolution style significantly predicted 26 percent of variances in emotional divorce in employed women, respectively.
With regards to findings, it seems that constructive communication patterns and positive conflict resolution training in premarital counseling and treatment and training of family can help to preventing couples emotional divorce.
