Comparison of emotion regulation, self-esteem and general health in employed women with unemployed women
The purpose of this study was to compare the emotion regulation, self-esteem and general health in employed women with unemployed women.
The method of this descriptive study was causal-comparative. The statistical population of the study consisted of employed and non-employed women in the 6th district of Tehran, among which 100 employed women and 100 unemployed women, totally 200 individuals from the age range of 25 to 45 years were selected by available sampling. To measure the variables, emotion regulation, self-esteem and general health were used. Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of variance and independent group t-test.
Non-employed women had higher mean scores compared to employed women in Difficulties Engaging in Goal-Directed and Impulse Control Difficulties variables. Nonemployed women had more problems than employed women in the field of anxiety/ insomnia, social dysfunction and depression in general health. Unemployed women had lower self-esteem than employed women.
Employment for women will have self-esteem. One of the influential factors in the way women experience power is income and wealth. When women have valuable resources, they are likely to have close and equal power; these women apply power face to face and resolve tensions through appropriate emotion control strategies, dialogue, discussion and negotiation.
