Abstract:

McFague, a philosopher and theologian that is famous for her theories' on theological metaphors and models, believes that metaphor is not just a rhetorical element, but is the nature of human thought; actually, we use them for understanding unknown things and mysterious world. She speaks about their dominion on theology, the most mysterious area and finds theology a long chain of metaphors, constructed around a model. On the other hand, she rejects objectivism and theory of correspondence and for evaluating beliefs choose a pragmatic idea. Based on pragmatism, she reviews Christian metaphors and finds them futile and useless in modern world. In her opinion they should be changed; so, she advises new metaphors instead of traditional ones. In her metaphorical theology we see another central concept, religious paradigm that every change in models should be according to it. Therefore, she is going to replace useless traditional models with practical ones considering Christian paradigm.
