COVID-19 Pandemic and Social Insecurity Feeling

Abstract:
Background and Aim

Due to the outbreak of COVID - 19 across the world, fear and anxiety pervaded human beings and threatened its peace and tranquility and the feeling of social insecurity enhanced. Therefore, the present study was aimed at investigating the impact of corona virus prevalence on the social insecurity feeling. The present study is based on the theories of Giddens and Ulrich Beck. According to Giddens and Beck, today's society is a risky society in which the current risks are not merely associated with their local origin, rather than that they are transmitted to other parts of the world and endanger all forms of life.

Method

The research method in the present study is of survey type. The statistical population of the study was all citizens aged 16 and 16 plus in Lordegan. Using Cochran's formula, the sample size was 385. Data collection tool in this study was a researcher-made questionnaire whose validity was confirmed using apparent method, and its reliability was confirmed using Cronbach's alpha coefficient.

Findings and Conclusion

The most important findings of the study indicate that the mean of social insecurity (3.71) due to corona outbreak in the study sample is significantly higher than the theoretical mean (3). Among the dimensions of social insecurity feeling; the feeling of economic, physical, emotional, public, mental and collective insecurity had the highest mean respectively, and have been most affected by the corona virus. The findings also indicated that there was significant relationship between age and social insecurity feeling due to corona prevalence .In addition, depending on individuals' education level, social insecurity feeling due to corona prevalence is significantly different; however, taking into account the gender there is no significant difference. According to the research findings, with the outbreak of Corona virus, social insecurity feeling rate is higher among older people, and people who are illiterate or less educated have also experienced more social insecurity. In general, with the outbreak of Corona virus, the level of social insecurity among the subjects has increased.
