Correlation of Social Aspects and Crimes and its Relationship with the Space-oriented Design of Police Stations (Case Study: 28 Police Stations in Greater Tehran)

The better the police stations perform their main task, i.e. meeting the security needs of the community, the higher the quality of citizens' life. The context wherein these tasks are performed in the form of physical identity is the police station buildings. In this regard, benefiting from the space-oriented design approach of architecture, solutions for designing the main spaces of police stations have been discovered, based on the status of social indicators in the areas under their coverage. 

The research is of applied type and its research method is of correlational type. Twenty-eight police stations have been also randomly selected and scattered in all zones of Tehran as a case study. The research information has been collected based on studying and examining library resources and data of the NAJA Prevention Police in 2019, the statistical annual book of Tehran, Atlas of greater Tehran and field visits. Then, SPSS was used for analyzing the correlation of achieved social indicators and five important (most common) crimes. Finally, the correlation between social indicators and five important crimes is adapted with space-oriented design.

Based on the correlation analysis conducted, it came out that there was significant relationship between each social index in relation to one or more crimes. Then, referring to the missions of each police station due to their respective crimes, the relationship between the effectiveness of social indicators in the area under their coverage and each main police station space has been explained. Thus, using the obtained finding, the design strategies of the main police station spaces have been explained. The explained solutions have addressed requirements such as the number or type of rooms, location, access, hierarchy, proximity, size and spatial proportions. Finally, the explained spatial structures may lead to the creation of a police station in accordance with social indicators
