Feasibility study of green roof development in order to achieve an ecological city (case study : zone 5 of Isfahan

In recent years, with the growth of international information regarding the scale and intensity of environmental changes, the ecologic cities` phenomena have turned to a pervasive worldwide event. On the other hand, the development of green roofs as vertical green spaces as well as considering some issues such as the shortage of land and water resources can be taken into account to increase the share of green space, develop the quality of the environment, optimize weather conditions, reduce pollution and meet the goals of ecologic cities. Due to some issues like inappropriate distribution of green spaces, the shortage of arid lands, air pollution, noise and etc. as well as considering its potentials, region 5 of Isfahan can enjoy the development of green roofs to meet its ecologic city goals. The purpose of the current study was checking the possibility ‌of developing green roofs in order to have an ecologic city in region 5 of Isfahan. The methodology of this research was applied in terms of purpose and it was descriptive-analytical in terms of nature; this was also quantitative in terms of its paradigm. Data were collected through documents and field studies using a questionnaire. Considering the purpose of the study, 55 items were designed through 11 indexes of ecologic city regarding research hypotheses. According to the obtained results, citizens believed that region 5 of Isfahan was ready for the construction of green roofs in order to meet an ecologic city. Moreover, there was a significant relationship between the development of cultural level and the awareness of citizens residing in the region and the cooperation in the development of green roofs of the region (0.364). In addition, there was a significant relationship between using encouraging rules and the tendency toward the development of green roofs (0.232).
