Evaluation of the effect of Myrtus comminus extract on Trichomonas vaginalis
Considering the fewer side effects of Myrtus communis extract, this research is being done to determine the effect of the plant extract on Trichomonas vaginalis.
The study was descriptive-cross-sectional and the sampling method was easy sampling. Patients with symptoms of genital infection, including discharge, itching, burning, and foul odor in the city of Zabol in 2018-2019, entered the study. Patients were givena vaginal discharge sample and placed directly on the slide with a swab for direct test with the help of a swap. It was examined with a light microscope. In terms of protozoan growth, it is followed.
Out of a total of 700 female vaginal specimens, about 5% (35 people) of trichomoniasis were confirmed. At a concentration of 300 micrograms per milliliter of the extract of the Myrtus communis plant, the parasite survived only at the beginning of culture and disappeared after one hour. At a concentration of 600 micrograms per milliliter, the parasite was inactivated during spherical culture and completely eliminated after one hour.
The activity of extract of Myrtus communis in the concentrations of 300 and 600 micrograms is promising. However, clinical trials are needed to further confirm the effectiveness and safety of the use of this plant.
