The Effectiveness of Rumination-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy on Mood and Anxiety Symptoms and Rumination of Depressed Adolescent Girls Attempting Suicide
The aim of this study was to investigate and compare the effectiveness of Rumination_Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness_Based Cognitive Therapy on mood and anxiety symptoms and rumination of adolescent girls attempting suicide.
The study was a quasi-experimental project with pre-test, post-test, and follow-up assessments. Thirty depressed adolescent girls who had referred to the emergency department with suicide attempting from October 23, 2019, to March 5, 2020, after having the inclusion criteria, were purposefully selected and randomly assigned in three groups including two intervention groups and a control group (each group with 10 people). One group received Rumination_focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and the other group received Mindfulness_Based Cognitive Therapy in ten individual sessions. All subjects completed the questionnaires including Beck Depression Inventory, Rumination Response Scale, Mood and Anxiety Symptoms Questionnaire and Beck Anxiety Inventory in three phases: pre-test, post-test, and follow-up. Data were analyzed by the univariate and multivariate analysis of variance with repeated measures.
The results showed that both interventions had a significant effect on reducing mood and anxiety symptoms and rumination. These results remained unchanged in the follow-up phase.
