Abstract:
The present study was conducted to extract the intellectual foundations of cognitive therapy by emphasizing the role of Stoic philosophy and its critique based on Islamic thought, in order to make effective use of cognitive therapy and to be an introduction for designing therapies with Islamic principles. Argumentative-critical review method, information was collected and discussed and concluded. Findings show that the most important influential foundations of Stoic philosophy in cognitive therapy are free will and individualism in anthropology and moral relativism in axiology. On the contrary, according to Islamic thought in the anthropological foundations of Islam, although man is free in his choices, but the scope of his choices is drawn within the framework of divine laws. In axiological foundations, moral values are rooted in objective facts. Cognitive therapy based on such intellectual principles indicates a therapy that is somewhat incompatible with the Islamic intellectual framework, which is a divine paradigm, and does not call man to the truth of his existence.
