A Reading of Educational Philosophy of Pragmatic School in Teaching Arabic
Pragmatism is one of the most famous streams of educational philosophy in the 20th century that has achieved a great success in revision of school and university programs around the world. This school plays a vital role in functionalizing language instruction, particularly teaching Arabic. In case of understanding the principles of this school, teaching Arabic can be fulfilled in an accurate way. These principles include: scientific knowledge, instrumentalism, skill, the relationship between experience, competence and activity, questions and change and problem solving. This study used a descriptive analytical method. Results of this study indicated that pragmatism uses notions, meanings and concepts to develop interaction skills among learners and connects language skills with vocabularies, and grammatical elements. This helps scientific teaching of the language and turn Arabic into a tool to communicate and exchange ideas. Pragmatism uses experience to teach Arabic and uses cognitive resources that experts have provided in this realm. In the process of experience, a set of questions are used to teach Arabic. Using new language studies, evaluation and competence, pragmatism helps faculty members to change their direction in Arabic teaching and solve the problems.
