A child with Neuropsychiatric manifestations of systemic lupus erythematosus: A case report
Systemic lupus erythematosus is a rheumatic disease which involves critical organs such as the central and peripheral nervous system and leads to detrimental neuropsychiatric impairments. A 10-year-old girl with seizures and mood disorders lasting more than one year was referred to pediatric rheumatology department and admitted. She was resistant to anticonvulsive drugs and also had some hematologic abnormalities. After clinical and laboratory evaluation, she fulfilled the criteria of systemic lupus erythematosus and the treatment led to good responses. Unexplained neuropsychiatric presentations such as headache, depression or seizures in an adolescent girl should raise the suspicion of systemic lupus erythematosus.
