The Effect of Triage Maneuver of Patients Referred to the Emergency Department During the Crisis on the Level of Military Nurse’s Knowledge and Attitude

The present study aimed to determine the effect of triage maneuvering of patients referred to the emergency department during the crisis on knowledge and attitude of military nurses.

The present study is quasi-experimental. Consisting of two groups with pre-test and post-test design. The statistical population consisted of all nurses working in military medical centers of Lorestan province in the second half of 2020. Sixty nurses were included in the study and randomly divided into intervention and control groups based on the inclusion criteria. Both groups participated in a one-day workshop (through lectures) on crisis preparedness; and a one-day maneuver based on the scenario. Two questionnaires including nurses’ demographic information and researcher-made questionnaire were used to measure knowledge and attitude of triage. Data were analyzed using SPSS 21.

Results showed no difference between the two groups in terms of distribution of demographic variables. Before the intervention, the mean scores of knowledge and attitude in the two groups were not statistically significant (P>0.05). Still, after the intervention, it was significantly higher in the intervention group than in the control group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference between the knowledge and attitude scores in the control group before and after the intervention (P<0.05).

Performing triage maneuvers for the injured referring to the emergency room during the crisis affects knowledge and attitude of nurses.
Itis recommended to improve nurses’ preparednessduring the crisis using theoretical training and lectures.
