Women Warriors Lived Experience and Iran- Iraq War
The authors of this article show that the Iran-Iraq war and women's participation in it have been a major factor in women's reflection of their social status in Iran after the Islamic Revolution. The basis of this research is interviews with several women fighters and analysis of the content of these interviews. These women generally come from traditional families, but their presence on the battlefield has challenged many of their traditional norms. They talked about the do's and don'ts of gender, during the eight-year war and in post-war society, and about discrimination between women fighters and men in official institutions. However, after analyzing the content of the interviews, the results showed that their participation in the war and their success in performing their duties on the fronts was a factor for reflection in their traditional roles and a challenge in traditional discourse. These conditions have prepared them to enter the public arena and have made their demands wider and different.
