the relationship between facial index and smile features in people aged 20-35 in ahvaz
In order to better understand the effect of facial patterns on smile attractiveness,the present study was conducted to determine the relationship between facial index and 3 characteristics of smile,namely gingival display, dental show and smile index in 20-35 years old in Ahvaz in 1399.
The statistical population of this analytical epidemiological study included 96 people (48 females and 48 males).Data were collected using 2photographs of frontal view and close up of smile. Using AutoCAD program, the amount of dental show, gingival display, facial height, facial width, smile width, and distance between lips were measured. Descriptive and analytical statistical tests and Chi-square, paired t-test and ANOVA) were used to analyze the data(P <0.05).
There was no significant difference between the mean of the measurement using two direct methods(direct measurement on the face) and indirect measurement on the digital image(p = 0.458).The facial pattern in men was significantly long face(p<0.001).In terms of gingival display and dental show .the effect of facial and gender index was significant(p <0.001).In terms of smile index, the effect of gender was not significant but the effect of facial index was significant(p <0.001).
According to the results, the facial index has an impact on all the affecting factors of the smile.Therefore, it is necessary to pay extra attention to this index in treatment planning and mechanics of orthodontics to obtaine a more attractive smile and for the patient to be more satisfied.Keywords: smile attractiveness, orthodontic treatment, quality of life, malocclusion, facial index
