Assessing the educational status of students based on the types of entrance exam quotas(Case study: Azerbaijan Shahid Madani University)
The aim of this study was to investigate the educational status of students of Azerbaijan Shahid Madani University based on the types of entrance exam quotas (veterans or special; and triple or normal areas).
The present study is applied in terms of purpose, descriptive in terms of data collection and correlational in terms of data analysis. The statistical population included all entrance students of 96 to 99 with 7129 people who were divided into two groups of special and normal quota students and the sample was randomly stratified relative to 620 people (260 special quota and 360 quota Normal areas) was selected. Then, the academic performance of students was compared with the total grade point average between different types of quotas. Data analysis was performed using t-test, one-way and multivariate analysis of variance with post hoc tests.
The results showed that the average grade point average of students using special quotas is significantly lower than regular students and the difference between the average grade point average of students with certain types of quotas is significant;Also, the difference between the average grade point average of students using the special quota and normal students based on the degree (interaction effect of quota and degree) is significant and within each degree,this difference was significant between the two groups.
The results showed that students with special quotas in the entrance exam process have lower academic performance than students with normal quotas in higher education.
