Abstract:

For more than two decades psychologists and sociologists have been warning about the damages of new social media. In the last decade, neurological research has been developed to provide an empirical foundation to support the above hypothesis. Researchers hold that a significant contribution to the adolescent trend plays a significant role in the tendency of individuals toward social media. The three parts of the brain, namely the "social cognition network," the "self-referential cognition network" and the "reward network", are worth mentioning of individuals to social media. The reward mechanisms that have been defined in the media and the neurological changes of the brain during adolescence, cause more stimulation and activity in the three regions. On the other hand, loneliness, depression, and memory weakness are one of the most important injuries of social media in addition to the changes of the brain in adolescence, it also goes back to the influence of peers and the media multitasker. In this paper, after examining the neuroscience of some of the most important harms of social media and its roots, we show that this research is accompanied by limitations, but these limitations do not undermine the validity of the results of the research field.
