US Foreign Policy Towards Afghanistan's Taliban
Afghanistan's history has always been one of insecurity, military occupation, sectarian and religious divisions, foreign intervention and societal poverty, which has made the country a safe haven for foreign powers.Afghanistan's relationship with countries such as Russia, China and Iran has always been calculated in the foreign policy equations of US governments. Developments in the aftermath of 9/11 and the military occupation of Afghanistan in 2001 ousted the Taliban until, in 2021, two decades after the withdrawal of US troops and the fall of Afghan cities by the Taliban, power was restored. The main question is how to explain the US foreign policy approach to the emergence of the Taliban? The present study seeks to test the hypothesis that the domination of the Taliban at the helm of Afghanistan does not mean the complete withdrawal of the United States from the country, but only for various reasons such as concerns about China's growing power, heavy military spending, and the presence of regional powers. Like Russia, China and Iran, the failure to eradicate terrorism, the disagreement with the Afghan government and the compromise with the Taliban can be explained.
