Economic Justice

The intrinsically desirable characteristic of justice has made it to be at the centre of attention of all people and schools of thought. Islam, as a perfect and final religion has placed a special emphasis on the prevalence of justice in all spheres of life.In recent centuries, the concept and interpretations of justice have been subject to several controversies ending up in two major perspectives: the social contract and the natural rights. The concept of justice is tied up with the concept of right and justice is defined as observing rights, both in the Islamic teachings and in the alternative approaches. Thus, in social science a behavior or a relation is thought to be just when it is based on rights. Economic justice means observing economic rights in economic relations. This, as an economic goal, is not fully realized unless every individual does not receive his share of society's income and wealth. Different approaches, based on different foundations, have been presented various meanings of right. However, in an Islamic perspective right originates from working and necessities. Everything on the Earth has been created for human being and every body has potentially an equal right to share and utilize the natural endowments. With human efforts and works this potential comes to be actualized. The meaning of justice differs from the concept of equality. Anyhow every individual should enjoy an equal opportunity to actualize that potential.
