Abstract:

One urban institution is the police, whose duty is to provide public security in the society. The location of police stations is a crucial factor and a paramount decision to be made in providing social security. Location of the police stations also influences the quality of the services rendered to the society. At present, there has been little attention given to it by the researchers in the field. One important issue in the study of police location is to find out the factors which influence the location. In this research, an attempt has been made to present a model to indentify factors which influence the location of police stations. To do so, the model employs theoretical studies and makes use of a particular approach in which experienced police officers are interviewed. The factors of location are studied and classified in six categories: population, local proximity, socio-financial dimension, infrastructure, crime- raising area, and general policy of the police.
