The Study of the Role of Family Structure, the Ways of Parenting, as well as Controlling Children’s Behavior of Drug Abuses among Youths between 16-26 Years Old in Boushehr Province
Family plays an important role in prevention and/or control of social harms especially addiction. This study intended to identify the role of family in initial prevention of addiction while regarding three family variables: family structure, ways of parenting, and controlling children’s behavior. To do so, a temperament questionnaire (Children’s Behavior Questionnaire CBQ) was used to select 100 youths to take part in the study. The participants were then put in two groups. 50 youths who abused drugs were put in experimental group and 50 youths who did no abuse drugs were put in the control group. The participants were selected via simple random sampling and were all between 16-26 years old. The subjects were then given the questionnaire about family structure and ways of parenting. The data were then computed with SPSS employing some statistical computations such as frequency distribution, percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, t-test, and analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results obtained confirmed the hypothesis, (P < 0/05). In other words, the family structure (level of parents’ education, number of family members, relationship between parents themselves and parents-children), the ways of parenting, and controlling children’s behavior played important roles in initial prevention of drug abuses
