Effectiveness of Behavioral Activation Therapy on Depression and Sexual Satisfaction in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes
This research was conducted with the aim of determine the effectiveness of behavioral activation therapy on depression and sexual satisfaction in patients with type 2 diabetes.
This was a single case experimental study from type of multiple baselines. The research population was patients with type 2 diabetes of Mashhad city in 2019 year, which from them 4 people were selected by purposive sampling method as a sample. All four people individually underwent 6 sessions of 90-minute behavioral activation therapy. The research instruments were scales of Beck depression (1967) and Hudson and et al sexual satisfaction (1981). Data were analyzed with using reliable change index (RCI) and maximum percentage of improvement (MPI).
The results showed that behavioral activation therapy significantly led to decreased depression and increased sexual satisfaction in all four patients with type 2 diabetes.
Regarded to the effectiveness of behavioral activation therapy on deceasing depression and increasing sexual satisfaction in patients with type 2 diabetes, planning to use this therapy method is necessary. As a result, counselors and therapists can use behavioral activation therapy along with other therapies methods to improve psychological characteristics, especially decrease depression and increase sexual satisfaction.Keywords: Behavioral Activation Therapy, Depression, Sexual Satisfaction, Patients with Diabetes
