Abstract:

The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is a massive, ambitious, long-term project initiatedby Chinese government, with participation from many other countries, to facilitatetrade and improve logistics in an effort to promote global economic development. Inthis paper, we identified the supply chain and logistics innovations linked to the BRI.These innovations include new routes and modes for global trade, new supply chaindesign, reduction of cross-border logistics frictions, and entrepreneurshipdevelopment. Examples of these innovations are the Belt and Road Initiativeemerging, while new ones are being developed. These innovations can enablebusinesses to improve their operational performance and create economic value. At thesame time, to realize the full potential of BRI, new work processes and technologies,the alignment of incentives, collaboration between jobs and optimal planning areneeded. This provides a good opportunity for researchers to discover how to overcomeobstacles and achieve full BRI values.
