Meta-Analysis of Studies on the Relationship between Social Capital and Social Tolerance in Iran in the Years 1388-1398/2009-2019

In recent years, there have been many studies on social capital and social tolerance. The extent and dispersion of these studies make a need to conduct a coherent meta-analysis to achieve a more comprehensive picture and see the shortcomings of the research field. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between social capital and social tolerance in studies conducted in Iran. Social capital is the position and relationships in social groups and networks and tolerance refers to a situation in which individuals and groups act with restraint and resistance against a situation or phenomenon that they find extremely distasteful or indifferent. In this research, the theories of Putnam and Coleman were used for social tolerance and the theories of Pierre Bourdieu were used for investigating social capital. This research was conducted with the meta-analysis method on the relationship between social capital and social tolerance in Iran. The statistical population of the research included all the studies conducted in Iran between 2008 and2018 with the same subject as the present research. The results showed that the relationship between social capital and social tolerance with fixed and random effects is significant at the 99% confidence level. The results show the heterogeneity of the studies. On the other hand, the average effect size of social capital (random mixed effects) on social tolerance in the studies is 0.205, which is at a low to medium level.
