Dakhma (Scholarly/Research)

European orientalists have proposed the stem "dagh" as the origin of the term "dakhma" and its cultural background. To justify the etymology, they have somehow analyzed the culture of ancient Iran and the disposal of the dead according to Iranian rite. The author, based on existing evidences in literary works, languages of ancient Iran and archeological data, rejects the proposed stems and suggests the stem "dak" meaning to bend, and "dakhma kardan" in vaulted tomb, meaning permanent burial place for the dead.
