Jawn: An Enlightened Servant of Imam al-Husayn
Earlier, Jawn had been a servant of Fadl b. Abd Allah b. Abd al-Muttalib. Imam Ali freed him and sent him on mission to serve Abu Dhar al-Ghifari. After the death of Abu Dhar at Rabadhah, he returned to Medina and joined Imam Ali after whom he joined Imam al-Hasan. Then he joined Imam al-Husayn and accompanied him from Medina to Karbala where he repaired the weapons of the companions of Imam al-Husayn. On Ashura, despite Imam al-Husayn's exempting him from joining the battlefield, he joined the jihad and achieved martyrdom.
