Sociological Explanation of Meaningful Living in Mothers with Intractable (Case Study of Tehran Metropolis)

Abstract:

Patients, especially mothers who carry the burden of caring for their family members, need empathy and support from their surroundings when dealing with incurable diseases. Creating meaning in the lives of sick mothers can allow the punishment to be provided with the help of the service provider. The purpose of this study is to explain this phenomenon. The researcher used the phenomenological approach to interpret their statements using in-depth interviewing and recording of participant's statements. This study was performed on 12 mothers of patients with children between the ages of 32 and 65 years, using purposive sampling method through referring to Neyayesh and Sina hospitals and also interviewing available mothers using snowball method. . The researcher extracted 44 concepts, 10 descriptive themes, and 4 explanatory themes. In summarizing and interpreting these themes, the researcher found that participants who's meaning of life, sense of efficiency and effectiveness, or sense of belonging to the family, exhibit high resilience to exposure to the disease.
