Identification of challenges and barriers to implementation of corporate governance in higher education
Participatory governance in higher education emphasizes the active participation of various stakeholders in decision-making and planning. In practice, the implementation of participatory governance is not easily possible and there are many barriers, especially in bureaucratic systems. The present study seeks to provide a comprehensive classification of the challenges of implementing participatory governance in higher education based on studies in this field and their analysis.
the method of the present article is meta-synthesis and qualitative with an exploratory approach. In this method, by using the meta-synthesis method and selecting about 150 articles and related researches, mostly from 2010 to 2020, and collected from various valid scientific databases, finally using this method, 100 selected articles were identified and the challenges of implementing participatory governance were identified.
Implementation challenges in higher education governance include eight categories: 1- Structural challenges, 2- Managerial, 3- Macro and extra-organizational, 4- Political, 5- Cultural and social, 6- Planning, 7- Economic and financial, and 8- Instrumental Challenges Each of which consists of subcomponents.
