Abstract:
Background and Objective

Although the statistics of road accidents in recent years show a significant decline in the rate of deaths due to accidents in Iran, the country is still one of the countries with the highest percentage of fatal accidents in the world. This study is conducted to identify accident hotspots in District 5 of Tehran using GIS-based statistical analytical techniques from 2018 to 2021. The statistical population includes all accident hotspots in District 5 of Tehran. Therefore, no sampling is performed on the population. The data is collected by field method, and the study tool consists of two data sets as follows: a digital GIS map of the urban road network and a data set concerning traffic accidents. The COMAP method is used to analyze the temporal-spatial patterns of accident hotspots.

Results

Both analyzes used in the study identify relatively similar accident hotspots, but the rank of some hotspots is quite different due to SI integration.

Results

The results show that car accidents occur more often in winter and summer. Furthermore, accidents occur mainly in two time periods, 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm.
