An analysis of the confrontation between the city and the village in the poem of Mohammad al-Maghout

The contrast between the city and the village in contemporary Arabic poetry has had a great deal, and many contemporary Arab poets have addressed it in their works. Mohammad al-Maghout, a contemporary Syrian poet, has not left behind, and has been addressing several issues in this regard. The resentment of the city's often-created human, social, and political relations prevails in the context of its poetry, in which the city has a ugly face in its poetry space. The sense of routine, sadness, observation and isolation is the product of his interaction with the city. In the present research, the issue of the confrontation between the city and the countryside in verse poetry has been criticized with a descriptive analytical approach. From the results, it can be noted that the city is like a prison for many who are constantly providing conditions to escape from it, and sheltering the village. The city sometimes has its true meaning in the poem, and sometimes it is an absolute city. Another consequence is that pessimism in the city and the tendency towards the village and other rural symbols are not due to the style of romance, and he was somewhat influenced by the literary followers of this style, including Gibran Khalil.
