Validation of apocalyptic narratives related to sinking the city of Basra

The sinking of the city of Basra, as one of the events that will take place in the end of time, has been one of the traditions that have been the focus of the hadith scholars since the early centuries of the beginning of Islam. Submerge means sinking, darkness and disappearance; It is considered as one of the sure signs of emergence in hadiths. Three types of narrations have been narrated about the sinking of Basra: 1. The sinking of Basra at the same time as the sinking of some other cities; 2. Sinking Basra alone; 3. Drowning of the city of Basra in water. According to these traditions, the city of Basra will be destroyed after sinking. The topic of this narration is mentioned for the first time in Nahj al-Balagha. A significant number of Sunni narrative sources and some Shia sources have narrated these hadiths regardless of validation criteria. Even today, some have tried to validate some signs of emergence, including Basra's sinking, but none of them have provided a comprehensive and complete review in this field. This research seeks to answer the question, how much credibility do the narrations of sinking Basra have and can we rely on them? In this article, this issue has been addressed with a descriptive-analytical method. The weakness of the document is one of the major problems that these hadiths suffer from. The results obtained from the examination of these narrations show that most of them are weak in terms of evidence and cannot be cited.
