The effectiveness of hardiness training on general health of nurses
Nursing is one of the most stressful professions and studies show that hardiness that can be learned is an effective method in controlling stress and maintaining general health. The aim is assessing the effectiveness of hardiness training on the general health of nurses working in Shahrekord hospitals.
The present research is a quasi-experimental study with two intervention and control groups (57 people). After matching intervention and control groups, nurses were trained about hardiness and its effect in dealing with tension, the general health status and hardiness of the nurses were measured before and after the training. Data was collected by demographic information and Goldberg generall health questionnaire (GHQ) (28 items) hardiness(50items) with three dimensions, challenge, commitment and control. Data was analyzed by using independent T test, Mann Whitney and pair T test in SPSS version22.
Independent t-test shows a significant difference between the average score of the intervention group and the control group (p=0.0001). Also, the Mann-Whitney test shows a significant difference in the mean scores of general health before and after training in the intervention and control groups (p=0.004).
According to the results, the application of hardiness behavior training in improving the hard character and improving the general health of nursing staffs are confirmed and explained.
