Identifying and prioritizing the components of knowledge commercialization in creating a third generation university with a data foundation approach (Case study: Qom Islamic Azad University)

Abstract:
Background

The importance of the issue is due to the fact that today the economic development of countries is formed in the knowledge-based group. Because universities play an important role in the knowledge-based economy, the commercialization of the knowledge produced in universities becomes very important and is applied when, through them, the university becomes an entrepreneurial university.

Purpose

. The main purpose of this study is to identify and prioritize the components of knowledge commercialization in Qom Azad University according to the approach of becoming a third generation university to propose a suitable model.

Methodology

A combined method has been used to collect data. First, the existing information on the research topic has been collected through the library method. Then, using semi-structured interviews with 18 experts and the selected group, information about strategies and steps of knowledge commercialization was collected

Findings

To achieve a paradigm model, a systematic strategy based on a data base has been used. Based on the analysis of the interviews, 214 initial open codes were identified, which were reduced to 24 core codes and 6 selected codes. The codes identified in the six nuclear classes, including the central phenomenon, causal conditions, contextual conditions, intervening factors, interactive strategies and consequences around the phenomenon of knowledge commercialization in the creation of the third generation university, were categorized as a paradigm model. They became connected. Shannon entropy was used to prioritize the obtained categories. Through that, the rank of each category was identified first in the main concept and then among all the codes.

Conclusion

Among the 26 core codes identified, rapid discovery of new opportunities in the market in the category of background conditions, absence of laws and bureaucracy in the category of core phenomena, communication networks between investors, industrial owners and universities in the category of causal conditions, creation of entrepreneurship centers, Growth, technology, etc. in the category of strategies, technological infrastructures in the category of intervening conditions and foundation for creating an entrepreneurial university were identified as the first priorities of the main categories.
