Analyzing the Influencing Factors in Moral Sensitivity and Moral Courage of Nurses
Nursing is considered an ethical profession and the ethical responsibility of decisions and actions rests with nurses. Therefore, nurses need moral courage and moral sensitivity to be able to perform humane care, stability and resist doing unethical things. Therefore, the purpose of this present study is to investigate the factors affecting moral courage and moral sensitivity.
This review article done by using the English keywords "Education, Ethics, Moral Courage, Nurses, Nursing Ethics", and their Persian equivalents from the databases of reliable scientific databases, PubMed, Science Direct, and Ovid. Web of sciences and Google Scholar search engine were conducted in the time range between 2000 and 2023. Articles that were not in line with the purpose of the research or were published in the form of a letter to the editor were excluded from the study. From the 35 searched articles, 15 articles related to moral sensitivity and moral courage were selected.
The results showed that factors such as age, education level, and type of employment, shift work, work experience, marital status, religious beliefs and moral education play an important role in increasing the moral sensitivity and moral courage of nurses. Discussion and
increasing the level of nurses' awareness of ethical principles and moral sensitivity will lead to the expansion of morally courageous behaviors in nurses. Therefore, it is suggested to carry out research on the effect of various educational interventions on the development of moral sensitivity and moral courage of nurses, or to investigate the relationship between moral sensitivity and courage with the quality of nursing care.
