The relationship between cognitive emotion regulation and distress tolerance with marital satisfaction

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to explain the relationship between cognitive emotion regulation and distress tolerance with marital satisfaction of married students of Islamic Azad University, Bojnourd branch. The sample includes 278 students who were selected according to Morgan table and multi-stage cluster sampling. Data collection tools in this study were Enrich Marital Satisfaction Questionnaire (1998), Garanfsky et al. (2002) Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire and Simmons and Gaher (2005) Distress Tolerance Questionnaire. Data analysis was performed based on Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise regression according to SPSS24 software and the results showed that there is a significant negative relationship between cognitive regulation of emotion and marital satisfaction and a significant positive relationship between distress tolerance and marital satisfaction. The results also showed that cognitive emotion regulation and then distress tolerance are the strongest predictors of marital satisfaction, respectively.
