Damascus University Students' Trust in the Media and Its Relationship to Attitudes toward the Resistance Front

Syria is a member of the Resistance Front, which has been embroiled in civil wars and foreign interference over the past decade, and this has caused the involvement of pro-and anti-Resistance media in the crisis. The present study aimed to investigate the Syrian students' trust in different media and its relationship with their attitude toward the Resistance Front. The population consists of all Damascus University students, of which 383 students were selected as samples using the quota sampling method. The data collecting tool was a survey and questionnaire. The data were analyzed using SPSS. The questionnaire validity was calculated by the face validity method in two stages (in Iran and Syria), and the reliability was evaluated using Cronbach's alpha coefficient. The results showed that the participants’ attitude toward the Resistance Front was at a medium level (mean=3.21). The results also indicated that the trust level in pro-Syrian media was 3.4, the neutral media was 2.53, and the opposition media was 3.4. The results of the hypotheses test showed that the relationship between the level of trust in different media and the student's attitude toward the Resistance Front was a function of the positions of the media understudy towards the Syrian government; so that there was a direct correlation between the participants' attitude and trust in pro-government media, and an inverse relationship between trust in different media and the participants' attitude.
