A Framework for Transforming the Persian Subject Headings into Linked Data

The semantic web which facilitated information retrieval is based on linked data. Libraries that have an important role in authority data can affect future information systems. Therefore, publishing library data as linked data can be a step forward in the semantic web. This paper aims to design a framework for transforming the National Library of Iran Subject Headings into linked data and publish it on the web. This paper is an applied study that used the library method and review the related literature to design a linked data framework for the National Library of Iran Subject Headings. The designed framework was implemented to ensure that its publishing is possible. Thus, first, the data (i.e., Persian topical terms) were cleaned. Then using Open Refine software, they were transformed into an RDF version and linked with the Library of Congress Subject Headings dataset. The transformed version of Persian Subject Headings was imported into the Jena Fuseki RDF Store and finally, the subject headings were displayed through skosmos interface. The designed framework can be used for publishing the National Library of Iran Authority files as linked data. In this framework, linking with similar datasets was considered, and publishing a part of subject headings was successfully reported.
