Application of ISBAR Communication Model in the Clinical Delivery of Patients and Prevention of Unwanted Events by Nurses: A Review Study

Clinical delivery of patients by nurses is important because of its relationship with patient safety; Training and applying the ISBAR communication model can improves the performance of nurses. This study aimed to review the effect of using the ISBAR communication model on patients' clinical delivery and the prevention of unwanted events by nurses.

This article is a review study that collects information from library resources and searches in Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, Google Scholar, Science Direct, Magiran, SID, and CINAHL databases and uses standard search engines with the ISBAR communication model, Clinical delivery, Prevention, Unwanted events and Nurses' keywords in the period of 2010-2021. Inclusion criteria were articles published in Persian or English, access to the full version of the paper, and a detailed study of the impact of the ISBAR communication model on patient clinical delivery, unwanted events, and patient safety by nurses.

In this field 31 studies were found that were examined. The results revealed that the use of ISBAR communication model in the process of clinical delivery of patients, prevention of unwanted complications, and improving patient safety could have a valuable and influential role in improving the performance of nurses. The ISBAR communication model can play an influential role in improving the clinical delivery process and preventing unwanted complications in patients. Therefore, using this model can be a practical step in achieving the most desirable quality of nursing services and improving patient safety.
